15 natural tips to boost your mood

Many of us wake up every day tired, in a bad mood and/or feeling bad about life. Our lives are increasingly busy, stressful and sometimes even trying. All of this can have an impact on your mental health, and physical health too!

How can you be in a better mood?

Exercise! Move your body in your favorite ways (sport, dance, gardening, cycling, walking...)

Plan time for breaks. When we are stressed and overwhelmed, our moods tend to be low. Dedicate a few minutes a day to yourself and rest! Why not take a 5 minute break every 2 hours of work? You'll be much more productive too!

Ideally, get 8 hours of sleep. Sleep = repair. When we feel rested, we are simply happier.

Go see an acupuncturist to clear the energy.

Forgive others. It's not just for the other person, forgiveness will benefit you too!

Be grateful. Write down 3 things you are grateful for every day. When we remember what we have rather than what we don't have, we immediately feel better.

Laugh more! Yes, there is science behind this. Laughing is the easiest way to feel good. Why not even try a laughter yoga session...

Cut out caffeine (coffee, sodas, energy drinks...). The adrenaline in caffeine affects your moods. If you are stressed or feel weak, it can make things worse. Alternatively, just stick to one coffee a day and ideally outside of meals so as not to disrupt digestion.

Avoid processed and packaged foods. They are highly inflammatory in the body, which will inevitably have a negative effect on your mood, not to mention some long-term negative health effects.

Ban artificial sweeteners. Studies show that aspartame is linked to mood disorders.

While you're at it, cut out refined sugar too! Sugar is a huge energy hog. You get a small boost of energy after consuming it, but then you'll crash harder than before, making you tired and cranky.

Reduce alcohol consumption. Alcohol is associated with mood disorders. Yes it is!

Cleanse. When our gut and liver are clogged with excess drink, sugar and toxic waste, our bodies struggle to make feel-good hormones like serotonin. Serotonin is actually made in the gut. So reduce your toxic intake and give your body a break. Ideally consult a naturopath to help you with this.

Drink more water! Dehydration can cause fatigue and restlessness.

Fill up on vitamin D. At the slightest ray of sunshine, spend at least 10 minutes in the sun with your forearms clear. If done between noon and midday, this is enough time to replenish your stores.
